              Loi Krathong Festival 2000
Pattaya's Loi Krathong Festival 2000 & Krathong Making (below)

Loi Krathong, the elegantly beautiful annual Festival of Light is held during the full moon in November. It features the launching of traditional floats (Krathongs) and exhibitions of local handicrafts, as well as an array of other fun activities. It is believed that the Loi Krathong Festival originated in Sukhothai, the first Thai capital.

Hot Air Ballons
1000's of these hot air ballons light up Pattaya's sky. They are a beautiful sight as they rise skyward.
Fireworks
People set off their own small fireworks but the hotels put on the best shows.

Sit down at any of the roadside tables and relax and enjoy yourself. Watch the carnival of Walking Street go by.

Making A Krathong

Things You Need
You will need banana tree leaves and trunk sections, assorted flowers, pins, incense, candles, patience and a Thai teacher. Although styrofoam has more flotation the banana tree sections are much better for the environment.
Fold And Attach
Banana leaves are folded and pinned to the outside & top of the banana tree sections.
Many Styles
Shown are two samples. Banana leaves can be attached in many ways and styles.
Two Krathongs Are Finished
Flowers are now added along with incense and candles.
Even A Child Can Do It
This one was made by my 11 year old son. They are easy and fun to make, try it.
Time To Let Go
Down to the temple to let our Krathongs go. By tradition the Krathongs is for the following: to give thanks to the water and say sorry for using it, our bad luck is placed in the Krathong to be floated away and we wish we will have good luck for the coming year.
